Once blighted by sunken rail cuts, Manhattan’s West Side has recently experienced a revival. Contributing to this new sense of vibrancy is the Archstone Clinton Mixed-Use Development, which infuses the neighborhood with 630 residential units and retail space and provides homes for three non-profit theater groups. The program spans three new buildings that frame an urban garden and plaza, which is connected to surrounding streets by through-block arcades. The buildings’ material palette includes masonry and glass, both contextual and locally available materials with a high thermal coefficient that contributes to strict energy efficiency goals set forth for the project.
